About the Practitioner

My name is Michael O. Trice, and I am a licensed massage therapist.  I moved to Houston in 2000 from Atlanta, and founded Guestwork in 2002. I've worked in healthcare for more than 15 years in multiple disciplines including Oncology, Endocrinology and Sports/Orthopaedic Medicine.  I've worked with people living with diabetes and clients with varying degrees of Multiple Sclerosis since 2001.  I studied nutrition at Grossmont College in San Diego and received extensive training from Memorial Hermann Massage and Spa Therapy School and have an ongoing relationship with the institution.

I have always had an affinity for older people, in fact, I prefer to call them "seasoned," rather than older.  I was extremely close to my grandparents and enjoyed taking care of them.  That passion has stayed with me throughout my life.

In 2001, I took a job as Director of Guest Relations for the Concierge, a retirement community that offered independent, assisted and skilled nursing care.  There, I met a young woman in the late stages of MS completely dependent on others for all activities of daily living. We immediately became good friends.  The Concierge closed due to Tropical Storm Allison and I facilitated the transfer of all the residents to different facilities based on their individual needs.  Our friendship continued for many years and I visited her often at the nursing facility. I would comb her hair and massage her face and contracted limbs.  I enjoyed her company very much, and she really enjoyed the massages.  I knew she enjoyed them, but it wasn't until later that I discovered the health benefits of massage therapy. Massage therapy is a very popular way to relieve muscle tension, spasms, inflammation, fluid retention, aches, stiffness and pain.

Jan passed away in 2006 and I still miss her very much, but often think of her smiling face.  Guestwork allows me the opportunity to perpetuate the memories of my dear friend and provide a valuable service to the community.
